This ceiling was created by Hearst-era craftsmen as part of
the Doges Suite two bedrooms and two bathrooms
that flank a central sitting room. Located on the mezzanine
level between Casa Grandes first and second floors, the
suite was completed in 1926.
As part of an exterior balcony exposed to the elements, the
ceiling suffered damage over time. Hearst Castles Historic
Restoration staff removed it and restored damaged elements using
techniques that included carving, casting, painting, and gilding.
After the restoration work was complete, the ceiling was reinstalled
in the Doges Balcony, where it can now be seen on tour.
